2023 Weiwuying Training Program for Theater Technicians
Along with the evolution of emerging performing arts programs, theater equipment in performing arts centers, both domestically and internationally, keeps developing and upgrading. Meanwhile, to cope with the increasing needs for various theater technicians and progressing technology applications to different extents, the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), as the center of performing arts of southern Taiwan, continuously cooperates with the Taiwan Association of Theatre Technology (TATT) to conduct the "2023 Training program for Theater Technicians", including "Theater Technology – Basic Level", "Theater Technology – Advanced Level" and "Workshop on Stage Management" courses for learning fundamental theater technology, so as to cultivate theater technicians for southern Taiwan also to enhance the quality of the performing programs.
In particular, the sessions "Theater Arts and Programs Production" and "Theater Technology Specializations" aim to develop the technical competences of theater technicians and stage managers. The full range of courses will be delivered by professionals from academic institutions and industries with expertise and practical experiences through both theoretical and hands-on lessons. Students are anticipated to be capable of applying the knowledge and skills as theater technical talents after completion of the workshop.

Theater Technology – Basic Level (96 hours, common subjects 21 hours included)
This introductory course is aimed at bringing people into the field of theater technology. Designed based on TATT's recently formulated Basic Theater Technology Standards, the course includes both theoretical and hands-on aspects in systematic instruction on the use of theater equipment and related essential skills.
- Dates: 7/15(Sat)-19(Wed), 7/24(Mon)-26(Wed), 7/28(Fri)-30(Sun), 8/2(Wed)-4(Fri), 8/5(sat) a total of 96 hours 15 days
- Place: Weiwuying classrooms and performance venues
- Who is eligible: those who are at least 18 years old and meet one of the following requirements:
•interested in theater technology and view it as a personal career direction; or
•possess (or are currently studying to earn) a degree from a related college/university department - Maximum of 20 applicants to be accepted
Theater Technology – Advanced Level (57 hours, common subjects 9 hours included)
Provide advanced theater lighting, video and audio courses, which is the best learning opportunity for technical theater new professionals.
- Dates: 7/15(Sat)-17(Mon), 7/19(Wed)-23(Sun), 8/5(sat) a total of 57 hours 9 days
- Place: Weiwuying classrooms and performance venues
- Who is eligible: those who are at least 18 years old and meet one of the following requirements:
•possess (or are currently studying to earn) a degree from a related college/university department; or
•who have participated in the technical basic course of "Weiwuying Training Program for Theater Technicians"; or
•Practitioners who have worked in the theater field for more than 1 year. - Maximum of 20 applicants to be accepted
- Students in the advanced level can sit in on the topics of the basic class. (Need to register with the course office before class)
Workshop on Stage Management (45 hours, common subjects 21 hours included)
Stage management entails numerous integrated aspects. Stage managers must handle the various links of theater production to ensure performances go smoothly. This introductory course is aimed at giving trainees a systematic understanding of stage management tasks and the process of stage production both theoretically and through hands-on experiences to learn the skills required for such work.
- Dates: 7/15(Sat) - 17(Mon), 7/19(Wed)-23(Sun), 8/5(Sat) a total of 45 hours over 9 days.
- Place: Weiwuying classrooms
- Who is eligible: those who are at least 18 years old and meet one of the following requirements:
•have worked in any capacity on at least five performance productions;
•have been employed in theater work or a related field for at least two years; or
•graduates or fourth-year students of any college/university who have participated in performance productions in at least three types of capacity: stage management, lighting, costumes, performer, playwright, director, administration, etc. - Maximum of 20 applicants to be accepted

The Taiwan Association of Theatre Technology (TATT), founded on January 18, 1998, is Taiwan's center for members of the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians.
