LAI Shih-jhe has worked in local and central government, private think tanks, and the Legislative Yuan in areas involving youth, news, labor, education, and culture. He focuses on public services whose designs are based on the needs of their users. He has propelled deliberative democracy to encourage public participation by young people, planned and conducted the Participatory Budgeting for Migrant Workers in Taoyuan program, innovative public-private collaboration in cross-boundary governance, been awarded the Best Practice Award by the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy, and was named a Public Welfare Activist by NPOst. He is currently in charge of supervising cultural experience education, the promotion of local cultural features, and fostering talent in the art and culture sector.

Cultural Experience Education Program
\n\n\t\t\tThe Ministry of Culture (MOC) oversees and cultivates Taiwan's soft power in the areas of arts and humanities, community development, crafts industry, cultural exchanges, international cultural participation, heritage, literature and publishing, living aesthetics, TV, cinema, and pop music. The Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Education have teamed up for this program to transform the mode and content of art and culture education. This platform, built by art/culture sector workers, school teachers, and experts and which is aimed at the learning needs of students, consists of courses designed with local cultural features. In this way, students in the mandatory-education system are given exposure to a variety of cultural elements. The program looks to excite students’ sense of and interest in art through the windows of visual arts, performing arts, cultural assets, literature, film, and craft design.

Taking Root: Art Education Project

Since 2013, she has focused on the concept of A/r/tography, nurturing teaching artists to adapt the Arts Integration Teaching Method for interactive teaching to different clientele, such as the development of social skills of children with special needs, life narratives of cancer patients, inmates in correctional institutions, etc., to experience the eternal energy of theater. Since 2014, she has planned and implemented the Medium and Long-term Aesthetic Education Program for the Ministry of Education, and this talent development program will enter the third five-year plan in 2024.

The Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) & The Ministry of Education Aesthetic Education Program
\n\n\t\t\tThe Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) is second to none when it comes to Taiwan's art-focused universities and is a leader within the Asian League of Institutes of Arts. There are seven schools at TNUA: Music, Fine Arts, Theater, Dance, Film & New Media, Cultural Resources, and Humanities. Research, instruction, and practice there mutually drive each other and nurture artistic talent. In 2014, the Ministry of Education initiated the Medium- and Long-term Aesthetic Education Program, which is about to embark on its third five-year term (2024-2028). Since 2014, TNUA has taken part in the talent training aspect of the program by providing a support system and serving as a sustainability partner. With the performing arts and new-media art as the core of its effort, TNUA travels all over Taiwan to hold art-related workshops for teachers and administrative staff at elementary, middle, and high schools. During the Campus Art Season, TNUA brings together classes at these schools and art/culture assets from their local environments so that the teachers and students may interact and learn from different perspectives.

HSUEH Rui-chun currently serves as the principal of Hsin Chya Elementary School in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City. With a background as a curriculum supervisor for the Kaohsiung City Government Education Bureau's National Education Advisor, she has earned accolades including the Ministry of Education's National Excellent Teacher Award and the Gold Quality Award for teaching excellence. She is dedicated to promoting long-term programs in arts and aesthetic education, having introduced a variety of art courses, aesthetic programs, and projects. Her notable programs, “In Search of Beauty: Mini Drama Courses” and “In Search of Beauty: Play Reading” focus on blending introductory and in-depth studies. These programs guide children to understand the historical context of theater and the elements of performance, nurturing their appreciation and love for drama. LI Pin-yu, 17 years old, is a senior student at Rueisiang High School with a strong passion for acting. In 2023, she participated in Weiwuying's Theater Arts and Education Project, taking on the roles of director and lead actor in productions of "My Sky" and "The Personals." Her experience in these roles taught her diverse ways to interpret characters, thereby deepening her performances and enhancing her acting skills. Moreover, her directorial debut in the play reading project was a crucial learning opportunity. It helped her develop key skills in communication, empathy, and respect, which are essential in the world of theater.

Laurie WOOLERY (Director) is an Obie Award winning director, playwright, community activist, and citizen artist, who works at theaters across the country including The Public Theater, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, New York City Center/Encores! Off Center, Trinity Repertory, Goodman Theatre, Kennedy Center, Cornerstone Theater Company, South Coast Repertory, and Yale Rep, where she has recently directed Mojada: A Medea in Los Angeles as well as Manahatta, El Huracán, and Imogen Says Nothing.
\n\n\t\t\tWorking at the intersection of community and transformative collaboration, Laurie is the Director of Public Works at The Public Theater, where her musical adaptation of As You Like It was named one of "The Best Theater of 2017" by The New York Times. She returned to the Delacorte last summer directing The Tempest. Laurie is a founding member of The Sol Project and a proud recipient of the Fuller Road Fellowship for Women Directors of Color. Winsome TAM joined the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority at the end of 2017 to lead learning and participation for the Performing Arts Division. She has spearheaded educational and community engagement initiatives for the opening of Xiqu Centre, the first performance venue in West Kowloon, and has developed anchor educational, participatory programmes in various performing arts forms for a broad range of audiences within and outside the District. Prior to West Kowloon, she headed arts and cultural programming for Asia Society Hong Kong Center, leading the development and curation of hundreds of public programmes and exchanges on Asian arts and culture, across disciplines of visual arts, film, performing arts, architecture, design, literature and arts education. LIU Yi-ruu is the General and Artistic Director of the National Theater and Concert Hall. She used to work as Director’s secretary and Deputy Artistic Director of the NTCH, supporting to establish the NTCH as Taiwan’s first ever incorporated administrative agency, while helping it to conform with the international trend and promoting Taiwan through arts. With a thorough background in both music and theater, Joyce CHIOU boosts an impressive track record in arts production, curation, and international affairs. Being the Executive Director of Taiwan Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra from 2006 to 2018, she had successfully established its acclaimed international reputation by taking the orchestra on tour in Europe and the USA for numerous times. In June 2018, she commenced her tenure at National Taichung Theater (NTT) as General and Artistic Director. Under her leadership, NTT has evolved into a culture hub for local communities and international outreaches, a compelling artistic force in Asian performing arts circles. She was elected as the Chairperson of the Federation for Asian Cultural Promotion (FACP) from 2023-2025.

National Taichung Theater
\n\n\t\t\tThe NTT is a theater where people and the arts coexist. Every year, the NTT presents three core series that befit the changing seasons: “NTT Arts NOVA” introduces new artistic perspectives combined with new media and crossover components; the easygoing “NTT Summer Fun Time” open to all ages, highlights musical theater productions; and “NTT Fall for Great Souls,” marked by daring and ambition, offers contemporary viewpoints transcending historical legacy. Together, these core series take the audience by the hand, embarking on journeys that open multiple doors to the arts and provide wonderful vistas to the world.
\n\n\t\t\tNational Taichung Theater has three principal goals: artistic creation, cultivation of new talent and audience development. To that end, NTT+ was launched in 2019 and has since presented diverse experiential events, educational courses, lectures and salons, workshops, arts-in-school programs, crossover experimental platforms, international exchange and online digital programs, engendering the arts as part of daily life, creating an all-round and comprehensive environment suitable for all ages to engage in arts education both online and in-person. CHIEN Wen-pin, General and Artistic Director of the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), graduated from the National Taiwan Academy of Arts and awarded a Master's degree at the National University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
\n\n\t\t\tHe joined the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf/Duisburg, Germany) in 1996 and served as “Kapellmeister” for 22 years. He was Resident Conductor of the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan (1998-2004). He was Music Director of Taiwan Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra (2001-2007), during his tenure the orchestra has achieved several milestones such as creating Subscription series, commissioning Taiwanese composers, introducing an opera series which coroneted with the first production of the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen by Richard WAGNER in Chinese-speaking areas, upon orchestra’s 20th anniversary in 2006.

The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying)
\n\n\t\t\tThe National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) opened in 2018 with its vision set on becoming an art center for everyone. As a result, Weiwuying works hard to bring the performing arts into people's daily lives, bridging the gap many people feel with art. In 2023, the Learning and Participation Department was established, integrating Weiwuying’s resources and creating an art outreach and learning website. The department looks to make Weiwuying a brand of cultural equality, online and offline resources for art education, and engagement between artists and the public. With our more open attitude toward rooting culture and art into people’s lives, we put on a variety of outreach events for people of all ages and community groups. From the public at large to young students, we are doing all possible to enhance their connection to and understanding of art.

CHANG Yu-hua attained her Doctorate at National Central University – Chinese Literature Research Institute (Chinese Opera). She has long worked on traditional performing arts development, cross-strait and international art exchange promotion, coordinating courses on Chinese opera, and disseminating and marketing Chinese opera, hence her extensive portfolio in art administration. She became CEO of Guo Guang Opera Company in 2015. With a firm belief in culture and branding as a management strategy, she launched the initiative Marketing, Publicity and Management in Chinese opera, which brought audiences of different communities into the theater. She also collaborated with other arts groups to kickstart the Taiwan Jingju Apprenticeship programme to nurture young talents. In 2019, she co-authored a publication with CHEN Shu-ying, The Guo Guang Brand – “A Traditional Jingju Group’s Pursuit of Excellence in the Taiwan Contemporary Arts Scene.”

\n\n\t\t\tGuoGuang Opera Company is one of the most inventive traditional operas troupes in Taiwan. Since its establishment in 1995, Guo Guang has devoted itself to infusing a modern consciousness in Jingju (Peking Opera) and Kunqu Opera. “Modernization” and “literarization” are two principles that serve as guidelines for the creation of new operas. In addition to many traditional Jingju and Kunqu operas, the representative works of Guo Guang Opera Company include many newly created operas, all of which have won acclaim in cultural circles.

PING Heng earned M.A. in Dance from New York University and a certified Labanotation teacher. Ping started Taipei Dance Workshop in 1984 and Dance Forum Taipei Dance Company in 1989. She is Professor in Taipei National University for the Arts, teaching related courses with Dance Education, Taiwanese Indigenous Dance and Art Administration. She was the Artistic Director of the National Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center in Taiwan (2004-2007), Dean of School of Dance, TNUA (2009-2012), and was on the Board of Directors of National Performing Arts Center. She was honored with the Literary and Arts Award from the National Culture and Arts Foundation in Taiwan in 1999.

\n\n\t\t\tLed by PING Heng as Founder and Artistic Director, Dance Forum Taipei (DFT) is the representative of contemporary dance in Taiwan. Through engaging different choreographers, the Company acts as an open forum for these artists to come together to present and to study their ideas first hand. DFT has presented 89 productions collaborating with 56 choreographers and 171 designers since its inception in 1989. Starting in 2008, the Company develops co-production with international companies and production houses, including NDT, Skånes Dansteater, Korzo Theater and Mercat de les Flors. In addition to presenting new productions, DFT organized 30-50 lecture demonstrations every year to promote dance education.

Creating pieces full of inspiration and a poetic sense, she excels at verbatim theater, theater for children and teens, and performances that blend literature and history. She is active in promoting cultural equity and artistic inclusivity while nurturing teen artists. She has hosted such programs as the Sixteen Years Old Festival, Detour, and Interpretations and Applications of Women's Life Histories. Her recent work includes Hello Halo!, Girl Drama: The Passing of Time, The Old Suitcase, Hearing, and One Hundred Years of Resistance.

It is a major player in Taiwanese child and teen theater and has repeatedly been invited to perform at major art festivals and international programs. LIU Yong-lun is an artist, arts administrator and educator. As an arts administrator, he has been involved in several projects to bring the arts into schools and more recently, was part of the team that developed the inaugural Visual Arts (VA) Learning Standards for Singapore Special Education Schools - a framework to guide schools in customising their own VA curriculum. He also helped to produce sensory-friendly/relaxed performances for individuals on the autism spectrum.
\n\n\t\t\tSince 2017, Yong-lun has been collaborating with other artists to form arts-based interest groups to allow adults and children with disabilities to engage in the arts. These groups range from Playback Theatre to string ensembles. Although his efforts may not always be successful, Yong-lun believes strongly that people with disabilities should be given equal opportunities to experience, explore and engage in the arts. He is also the founder of Harmony Community Choir an inclusive choir mainly made up of neuro-diverse young adults, which is still going strong today.

International Teaching Artist Collaborative (ITAC)
\n\n\t\t\tThe International Teaching Artist Collaborative (ITAC) is the first global network of artists working in community and educational settings to create positive social change. Teaching artists are known by various titles in different countries - participatory artists, community artists, socially engaged artists - but they are the newly emerging sector of artists who use their practice to impact social issues (usually by working with communities of non-artists). As society tackles increasing social divides and challenges, ITAC recognises that supporting practitioners with this skill set is more important than ever. Our work proactively networks teaching artists through international conferences, projects and social media, to build an international community, cultivating excellence in teaching artistry. The ITAC Collaborative works together to build connectivity, visibility, status, support and value for participatory practice across the world.

Spica WOBBE (CHENG Shu-yun) is a puppetry artist originally from Taiwan. Her work has been seen worldwide, including Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, Germany, Israel and Austria. Now based in NYC, she works as a puppetry artist and educator since she received her M.A. in Educational Theater from New York University in 2003. She established Double Image Theater Lab in 2011 which is a two time recipient of the Jim Henson Foundation grant and the resident artist of the PATCH residency at the Carriage House and New Vision Series at the Sandglass Theater. She co-created The Memory Project in 2016, which works with older adults to document their life stories through arts. She has worked with numerous organizations as a teaching artist, including the New Victory Theater, Flushing Town Hall and Lifetime Arts. She received the Exemplary Teaching Artist Award from New York University in 2014.

Her translated work includes Theatre of the Oppressed and Games for Actors and Non-Actors, and she has edited Community Theater - Concepts and Practice and Voices of the Drifter - Concerning Migrant Workers through Drama.

The center focuses on two areas, theater workshops (people's theater, community theater, process drama, and educational theater) and interactive performances (forum theater and theater-in-education) as means of getting into the community, social groups, and schools while engaging in social practice on varying levels. They also put on many types of training related to social participation, dialogue, and action. The center is highly concerned with such issues as laborers' rights, communities, grassroots democracy, Indigenous people, migrant workers, recent immigrants from Southeast Asia, the Cold War, Taiwan's White Terror, and transitional justice while actively participating in exchange and collaborating with applied theater organizations and schools in the Chinese-speaking world.

YANG Yu-chiao is a solo performer of oral tradition and folktale acts and a multidisciplinary narrative artist. Since 2019, he has been a performing arts instructor at Weiwuying in the areas of free improvisation, classical music, drama, and opera. Invited numerous times to perform at all kinds of art exhibitions and festivals, he is also involved in narratology research and performance instruction in the areas of oral literature, drama, and film. For years, he has written critiques, press releases, essays, and literature, including multiple collections of short stories, such as the 2023 acoustic imaging poetry collection Xi Xiang. In 2022, he began dabbling in generative AI collaborative performance. This year, he was invited to produce the online performance series The Parallel Universe of Waves for CHENG Tsung-lung's Waves during Cloud Gate's 50th anniversary.

Born in Kaohsiung in 1991, CHEN Zhi-lei heads the Blooming-Grass Cooperative and is a dance artist. Since returning to Kaohsiung from northern Taiwan in 2017, she has not only continued developing herself in the areas of production and performance but also opened classes for amateurs. Since 2020, she has participated in Weiwuying's Theater Arts and Education Project, sharing her professional dance knowledge with others in an easily understandable way. In contrast with the training system for full-time students of dance, her classes aimed at the general public focus mainly on freedom and creativity.

HUANG Chi-Shang is the Head of Shinezone Theatre and playwright, director, and instruction evaluator. Since 2017, he has provided guidance to over a hundred artists through his independently opened professional performance and playwright classes. In 2019, he began working as an instructor for Weiwuying’s Theater Arts and Education Project, using his personal experience to guide participants in applying different elements to stage reading. For instance, at Baolai Junior High, he led students in using such tools as brooms to create the show The Pearl Milk Tea Incident. For The Magic of Alice’s Wonder at Fengxi Elementary School, he used a variety of types of cloth to change the scenery and characters. At Rueisiang Senior High, he directed and performed in Unconventional Era Script Selection. Since founding Shinezone Theatre, he has continued making local art, conducting outreach and engagement, and developing the potential of theater education through Weiwuying’s Theater Arts and Education Project.

\n\t\t\t Raymond WONG graduated with an M.A. in Arts and Cultural Enterprises from the University of the Arts London (Central Saint Martins) and a B.Sc. in European Studies from the Hong Kong Baptist University, Raymond WONG serves in performing arts for more than 20 years as producer of national and international programs, marketer, facilitator of cultural exchange projects and manager at venues and arts organizations. He joined the City Contemporary Dance Company in Hong Kong from 2006 and served as Managing Director from 2014 to 2021. He was appointed as Deputy General Director of Weiwuying in 2021, to oversee branding, audience engagement and visitor experience. \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t | \n\t\t

\n\t\t\t KENG Yi-wei is the dramaturg of Weiwuying, visiting assistant professor of theatre arts at National Taipei University of Arts. He earned his Bachelor degree from the department of philosophy, National Taiwan University and studied mime in the Academy of Performing Arts, Music and Dance Faculty (HAMU) in Prague. He was the artistic director of Taipei Arts Festival from 2012 to 2017. He had won the first prize from NI-Kuang Sci-Fi Award. He was awarded the Freundschaftsmedaille, Chevalier dans l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and Goethe Medaille. Now he is also the curator of the 2023-2024 Tainan Arts Festival. \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t | \n\t\t

\n\t\t\t CHEN Chiao-yi graduated from the National Pingtung University Department of Music and worked at the Sheen Chuen-Chi Cultural and Educational Foundation and the Quanta Culture and Education Foundation. She now heads the Arts Participation Division at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying). Since 2019, she has worked on Weiwuying’s Learning Arts Together and Theater Arts and Education Project, which are aimed at promoting the performing arts at schools. In her role, she continues to collaborate with the central and local governments while developing brand events for the general public, families, and people of all ages, helping to truly make Weiwuying an art center for everyone. \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t | \n\t\t

\n\t\t\t Abby CHU serves as the Music Director for Orgelkids Taiwan. She has been actively involved in organ educational programs at Weiwuying, including Explore the Pipe Organ, "Creative Organ Workshop - Beyond the Organ," and "Theater Art Experiential Education Project - Organ." In collaboration with Pingtung Performing Arts Center, she hosts organ educational concerts, workshops, and children's organ summer camps. She also instructs Orgelkids’ "STEM Approaches for Understanding Organ in Schools" program and speaks in Pingtung Performing Arts' Film "A 9 minutes introduction to the King of Musical Instrument s- Organ." With a master's degree in Performing Arts, Abby is dedicated to diverse approaches in promoting the organ in Taiwan. \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t | \n\t\t

TSOU Feng-chih received the Fulbright - Taiwan Ministry of Culture, Arts Professionals Grants in 2021-2022, during which she conducted research in New York on artistic planning, education, community engagement, inclusion and sustainability in the performing arts. Inspired by her research, she left her prior position as Head of Dance and Circus Artistic Planning at Weiwuying and transferred to her current position. Before joining Weiwuying in 2022, she was the Head of Programming at the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei. During her 13 years at the National Theater, She responsibilities ranged from programming, producing, and organizing festivals with an emphasis on contemporary dance and theater. She produced several cross-cultural and inter-disciplinary projects, including the award-winning dance Terrace on the Hill, a collaboration between indigenous artist WATAN Tusi (Taiwan) and French percussionist Roland AUZET, which won the Pulima Art Award in 2018. Feng-chih received her MA in Drama and Theater Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London. | \n\t\t
