Besides the breathtaking vineyard-style seating and outstanding acoustics at the Weiwuying Concert Hall, the pipe organ, located on the top floor, is another major highlight. If you're wondering what this largest organ in Asia can do, our Explore the Pipe Organ series of events is just what you're looking for!
\n\nPerformances will be enhanced with other instruments, special lighting effects, and informative explanations, which will make the organ's diversity and charm more accessible and understandable to the audience.
\n\n\n\n
In addition, the programs boast two unique features: The first is that they will be Close-up Shows—the stage will be transformed into a seating area to give the audience an even closer experience with the organ. The second is the Musical Chairs aspect: members of the audience will be permitted to get up and move to other seats between pieces of music to try out different perspectives and get an idea of which seats they would like to reserve for future performances.

\n\t\t\t When it comes to Weiwuying’s most famous instruments, aside from the Public Piano in Banyan Plaza, the organ (Asia’s largest), located in the Concert Hall, has quite a reputation. For this year’s Explore the Pipe Organ series, we will start our stroll into this grand instrument’s realm with the New Year’s Organ Party. \n\n\t\t\tAt the concert party, we will hear BEETHOVEN’s ever familiar Ode to Joy, but played on the organ, as it will be an all-new breathtaking experience. Then, two of the most romantic pieces of classical music, ELGAR’s Salut d'amour and LISZT’s profound Prelude and Fugue on the Name B-A-C-H, are perfect additions for celebrating the arrival of the new year. What’s more, members of the audience will be permitted onto the stage to enjoy the performance up close! \n\n\t\t\tLet’s come together to wish each other a happy new year and immerse ourselves in hope/love-inducing music! \n\t\t\t | \n\t\t|

\n\t\t\t In religious music, the organ manifests a sense of piety and holiness, and in secular music, it is often used to create a feeling of eternal love. First, MENDELSSOHN’s Sonata No. 3 will let you feel the hope and joy of love, followed by several smaller works, including DVOŘÁK’s Humoresques and BEETHOVEN’s Für Elise, all of which are familiar classics. The organist’s interpretation of these pieces will exhibit the diversity of classical music and the organ’s wealth of sound. What’s more, members of the audience will get the extremely rare opportunity to watch the performance up close to truly feel the incomparable magnificence of this instrument! \n\n\t\t\tCome and experience the love and eternal bliss of the organ! \n\t\t\t | \n\t\t|

\n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t The most famous classical organist is without a doubt BACH, long known as the “father of classical music.” While alive, he was viewed throughout Europe as the greatest organist, but his skill didn’t stop there: he could calibrate and repair organs too. In the German cities of his day, whenever a church got a new organ, he was invariably hired to come tune it and make sure it was ship-shape with just the right timbre. We can’t go back 300 years to the Baroque era and listen to him play for us, but we can gain an understanding of his talent and greatness through his music while getting a taste of the breadth and depth of the organ. \n\n\t\t\tNo matter where you sit in the Concert Hall for this event, the beauty and richness of the instrument’s sound will envelop you and carry you off to a veritable wonderland. \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t | \n\t\t|

\n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t The organ is the most iconic keyboard instrument with the longest history before the modern piano. Meanwhile, the piano is today’s “king of the instruments” and the most common and expressive one. So what if we brought the two together…? At this concert, where we’ll undertake such a bold, unheard-of experiment, we’re going to completely overturn your ideas on keyboard instruments with a unique show of famous pieces by French composers FRANCK, DEBUSSY, and RAVEL that will display the reverberating, rich tone of the organ and the crystal-clear vitality of the piano. \n\n\t\t\t\n\n\t\t\t \n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t \n\t\t\t | \n\t\t|

\n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t Incidental composition for film is one of the most popular forms of music. For most of silver-screen history, such music has played indispensable roles in classic films from all over the world. Upon hearing the first few notes of melodies from certain films, people often immediately think of the unforgettable scenes from which they hail. At this concert, the organ will bring you to those scenes with songs that have been inscribed into our memories, including pieces from Ennio MORRICONE’s music for The Mission and Nuovo Cinema Paradiso to a medley of Argentine tango guru Astor PIAZZOLLA’s work, and from The Wizard of Oz’s “Somewhere over the Rainbow” to the pumping theme song of Mission: Impossible. And let’s not forget the theme for the hit video game (and now movie) Super Mario Bros! \n\n\t\t\tIf you want to see the organ’s capacity for both deep sentiment and lively playfulness all in one show, this concert, sure to be like no other in organ history, is for you! \n\n\t\t\t\n\n\t\t\t \n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t \n\t\t\t | \n\t\t|

\n\t\t\t \n\n\t\t\t Everyone knows the organ’s timbre can take on a multitude of demeanors through the use of its stops, which is what makes the instrument so uniquely dramatic and gives it the capacity to do what an entire orchestra is capable of. What if we performed popular movements from SAINT-SAËNS’ childlike The Carnival of the Animals on the organ? We’ll also hear CHEN Si-zhi’s idyllic Taiwan Sketches. In this music, we can gain a deeper understanding of the many faces of the organ while enjoying a range of music from classical Baroque pieces by BACH to the contemporary, ever-advancing music of CHEN. \n\n\t\t\tAt just this one (albeit extraordinary) concert, the magical evolution of the organ from centuries past to the present day will unfold before your eyes, so what’s keeping you from reserving seats? \n\t\t\t | \n\t\t

The pipe organ is one of the world's oldest instruments, dating back to as early as the 3 rd century BC in Greece. Since it has a majestic, dignified sound, which is even more pronounced by the echo in large churches, along with its variance in timbre, it became an important presence in Christianity beginning in the Middle Ages, in turn prompting the composition of a great number of pieces over time.
\n\n\n\n
As missionaries brought their faith out of Europe, the organ followed to churches all over the world—over 30 can be found in Taiwanese churches. Now that Western classical music is a popular genre, almost all concert halls are built with an organ, allowing people all over to hear the grandeur of this fascinating instrument.
\n\n\n\n
Similarly, an organ was also put into the plans for Weiwuying.Century-old German organ manufacturer Johannes Klais Orgelbau built the instrument, which has 9,085 pipes and 127 stops, over a period of a bit more than three years. It is both the largest organ in Asia and the only concert hall organ in the world with the capacity to be played by three organists at the same time. Being perfectly blended into the vineyard seating as the cherry on top, it never fails to stun world-class organists from around the globe!
