In MOZART's 35 brilliant years of life, he wrote over 600 pieces of music. Naturally, even 24 continuous hours would not be enough to hear all of it. The portion of 24 Hours MOZART at the Concert Hall focuses on the orchestral music he composed during his final ten years, at which time he had reached his creative peak.
\n\nThis journey of his outstanding work starts with Mass in c minor, K. 427. Within the holy melody can be heard bits of MOZART's love for his fiancée, Constanze, and notice of his forthcoming move to Vienna. Of his symphonies, six from his latest period have been chosen: No. 35 (the Haffner Symphony), 36 (the Linz Symphony), and 38 (the Prague Symphony), which flow with the joy of his travels around Europe; and No. 39 to 41, which were written within just three months and exhibit how he broke past the standards of the time and set a foundation for Romantic Period.
\n\nAs for concertos for specific instruments, his genius brings out the best in the piano, violin, clarinet, and many others—at times, it sounds as if the instruments had been created specifically for those brisk pieces full of joy!
\n\nWith the arrival of midnight, the CHEN Jo-yu jazz trio will toy with MOZART's musical prodigy through contemporary improvisation. Then, in the wee hours of the morning, WU Ya-hsin and CHEN Chih-yu will put on separate piano recitals, leading the audience in experiencing the lonely contemplation of the composer.
\n\nBesides being able to attend all the performances at the Concert Hall during the 24 hours with just one ticket, attendees may instead purchase 8-hour tickets for any of three specific time periods (16:30 to 24:00 / 00:30 to 09:30 / and 10:00 to 17:00). So whether work or family responsibility keeps you from being able to stay at Weiwuying the whole time, or perhaps you just want to come at a certain time for whatever reason, now you have more choices!

Weiwuying is more than happy to hold an event of ten concerts in the Concert Hall and eleven programs in the Recital Hall devoted to MOZART—all in a span of just 24 hours! Of course, members of the audience don't have to be so diligent. If you've been in one of the venues for a while and want a change of atmosphere or would like a drink or something to eat, come to the third-floor lobby of the Concert Hall, where huge picture windows offer a view from above of the Weiwuying grounds. It's the perfect place to sit or recline and think about the music of MOZART you've heard so far that day.
\n\nOf course, it would be pretty boring if the third-floor lobby were just a place to rest. MOZART would certainly have had something to say about that! So there will be four chamber music performances here of about a half hour each, where those present can take in his music in a more casual atmosphere. You'll feel how royal courts in centuries past used performances of MOZART's music to create just the right atmosphere for socializing. Maybe the experience will show you something new about his music.
\n\nAlso in the lobby will be two talks about MOZART's brilliant life and pieces that couldn't be squeezed into the program, expanding your understanding of MOZART to enhance your future listening experiences of his music. If you're here late at night and would like to snooze for a while, come to the lobby and fall asleep to a screening of the film Amadeus (though we warn you, it won eight Oscars, so you might find it hard to actually close your eyes!).

The portion of 24 Hours MOZART at Weiwuying's Concert Hall presents MOZART's great works from the final decade of his life, while the portion at the Recital Hall focuses on the diversity of his musical genius. As the music world's first freelancer ever, MOZART was sought out by all kinds of musicians to write for ensembles. Nothing was too difficult for him, and as he was in dire need of income, he accepted every offer, creating a diverse array of chamber music. From the common genres of string quartets, sonatas for two pianos, and piano quintets to the rarer clarinet quintets, flute quartets, oboe quartets, and Horn quintets, MOZART handled each in a variety of ways completely unprecedented. At one point, he was so busy that he had no choice but to "appropriate" his own work, creating numerous "twin" pieces sharing the same melody but with different arrangements, each one just as amazing as the next!
\n\nThe eight chamber music performances to be performed in the Recital Hall span half of MOZART's life, from the three divertimenti that he wrote at the age of 16 to one of the Prussian Quartets he composed the year before his death, exhibiting how he evolved from a young genius ever willing to show off his talent to a highly mature professional nearing perfection. Over this 24-hour period, the audience will see a meticulous narrative of his chamber music.
\n\nDespite this look at chamber music, the program by no means neglects his operatic and vocal music. With explanations given during the concert, the audience will be guided on a tour of the human voice à la MOZART through pieces that have mesmerized the world for over two centuries!

Public Piano: Variation 13 on Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman
\n\n12 Variations on Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman is one of the iconic works of the youth prodigy MOZART. Beginning as a nursery rhyme, it was turned by him into a classic melody, a continual series of 12 variations for the piano. During 24 Hours MOZART, whether you’re a beginner or master pianist, Weiwuying welcomes you to come and play the piece on our public piano. We will have the sheet music on hand, and you can play it as written or put your own spin on it to create your very own thirteenth variation!
