This online concert is performed by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, led by Christoph ESCHENBACH, together with the pipe organ master Christian SCHMITT. After opening with MOZART's Symphony No. 35 in D Major Haffner, you will see them place the pipe organ in the center of the orchestra, the focus of the rest of the program. SCHMITT's melodious pipe organ prelude opens Francis POULENC's Concerto for Organ, Timpani, and Strings in G Minor. The organ with diverse tones pairs with the dramatic timpani and the many different articulations of the strings, presenting seven distinct tempos and emotions. SAINT-SAËNS's Symphony No. 3 in C Minor, "With Organ," is a staple of the pipe organ repertoire that cannot be missed. SAINT-SAËNS, a church organist for twenty years, has a deep understanding of the timbre and characteristics of this huge instrument, and perfectly integrates it with the orchestra, conveying a variety of nuanced atmospheres, from lyrical to grandiose.
