Orchestra|Vienna Philharmonic
\n\nThere is perhaps no other musical ensemble more closely associated with the history and tradition of European classical music than the Vienna Philharmonic. In the course of the past 177 years, this orchestra has experienced and influenced the course of musical history around the world. Even to this day, prominent soloists and conductors refer to the unique "Viennese Sound" as the outstanding quality that sets it apart from other orchestras.
\n\nThis success story had its origins in the desire to found a symphony orchestra dedicated to the ideal of performing at the highest level the symphonies of the Viennese classical composers, particularly Ludwig van Beethoven. This artistic goal could only be implemented through the enthusiastic affirmation of the musicians of the Vienna Court Opera Orchestra, who in 1842 made the decision to present "Philharmonic Concerts", independently of their duties at the opera theater and within a framework of complete artistic and entrepreneurial autonomy. This produced a structure based on democratic principles in which all aspects of the decision-making process rest in the hands of the musicians themselves.
\n\nThe inimitability of the orchestra's sound is also based on the singular relationship between the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. One of the orchestra's founding principles is that only a musician from the opera orchestra can become a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. The musicians are required to perform in both orchestras, and to this day, every future Philharmonic musician begins his or her career with an audition for the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and only after a three-year waiting period becomes eligible for full membership in the Vienna Philharmonic.
\n\nSince 1870, the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, with its unique aesthetic and acoustical characteristics, has proven to be the ideal venue for Vienna Philharmonic concerts. The orchestra's first foreign tour took place in 1900 with a concert tour to Paris under the baton of Gustav Mahler. Another memorable year was 1922, which saw not only the orchestra's first participation at the Salzburg Festival, but also the first overseas tour to South America. This marked the beginning of an active touring schedule which has taken the orchestra to all continents on the globe and in recent years has included regularly scheduled concerts in Germany, Japan, the USA and, in the future, China.
\n\nThe orchestra has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards. Since 2008, it has been supported by its exclusive sponsor ROLEX.

Spectro 7
\n\nSpectro 7 uses crossover to interpret tradition and uses innovation to decorate local styles, incorporating diverse musical styles—including pop, jazz, Latin, Indian, and world music, into core traditional music—including local folksongs, Hakka songs, Nanguan and Beiguan, Chinese Operas, and Taiwanese aboriginal music. With original works that are touching and powerful, they not only enliven ancient tunes to showcase the beauty and rich human spirit unique to local music, but also present dialogues between the local and the world, as well as between the traditional and the modern.
\n\nSpectro 7 is comprised of Artistic Director WU Cheng-chun and six other instrumentalists, totaling two pianists, two percussionists, one specialist in plucking instruments, one guitarist, and one bass player—an extremely rare combination in Taiwan. WU Cheng-chun, who studied traditional Taiwanese drama, is not only one of the most sought-after world-class performers in Taiwan, but also a popular mainstream percussionist. His collaborations include with CHANG Hui-mei and Penny TAI, and also as a member of Sheng-Xiang & Band.
\n\nOther members have diverse backgrounds, including in Western classical music, modern theater, traditional Taiwanese music, drama, and pop music, and all have arrangement capabilities. With an aspiration to "break the norm and constantly try out different styles of music", they freely switch in-between different instruments based on the arrangement. For instance, sometimes a samisen, banhu, or synthesizer may be added into existing instrumentation, so as to spark new ideas in works and explore thrilling, unknown terrains outside of existing styles.
\n\nDrawing upon his high attainment in traditional Taiwanese music and abundant performing experiences, Cheng-chun hopes to, through combining the unique arrangement styles of each member with crossover music, break down the barrier between traditional music and the audience and assign new meanings to original works. Through interactions between traditional music and other styles of music, he aspires to stimulate the audience's imagination and generate greater possibilities.
\n\nSpectro 7 uses the stage as a canvas to create a more sensuous experience that is distinct from traditional performances, which is specifically reflected in its choice of costume design, lighting, and interactions with the audience.
\n\nThe costumes were designed by the famous designer Justin CHOU, who incorporated the work of calligraphy master DONG Yang-zi. Combined with the exquisite lighting effects, one can feel the transition between the virtual and the real in both the calligraphy and music, as well as the commonality between the pitch-dark ink and white blanks. Through using visual effects to lead the audience into the audio world, the comprehensive and ingenious aspects of performance design aesthetics are readily seen.
\n\nIn addition to having diverse arrangement styles, these original works are able to, while evoking feelings of novelty, achieve resonance in the audience due to the use of easy to understand melodies. At the same time, through their sincere performances, one is able to feel the performers' love for their homeland, while the entire presentation may be likened to an artistic feast that is expansive and without boundary.
