About the Program
- Brainstorming
How many ways are there to give voice to a poem? Focusing on modern Chinese poetry, this section explores the ways in which imagination takes flights in the interpretation of poems. It sets no limit on the number of avenues of thought that can be derived from the text and invites you to feel how reading poems out loud connect words and sounds. - Body & Movement
Expressing oneself in self-assured clarity up on the podium is no piece of cake. Even making a typical class presentation involves perhaps a certain degree of “performance.” How much do we know about our body? If doing without telling, how are we going to communicate? Find out the secret(s) of your body and let it “speak”! - Voice
Accompanied by a selection of musical pieces, this section explores vocal expression with a keen ear for sounds coming from both the exterior and the interior realms. How can we manipulate and make use of the sound of our voice? Through a number of voice games, we are here to expand what we conceive of our own voice and learn how to use and take care of it. - Storytelling through Objects
through ObjectsBehind inanimate objects there are probably countless stories left untold. How are we going to say those stories? What can we play through the objects attached therewith? - Lighting
Have you paid attention to the lights that populate your life? Be it sunrise, sunset, stars in the night, the Milky Way, street lamps, or bonfire, do you like the “light” in your sight? What do you feel for it? Can we duplicate what one feels upon the stimulation of lights? - Photography, Light and Shadow
Not only light but also landscape and shadow can be one of the elements of composition: these elements enrich the picture’s sense of depth and perspective. Season, climate, and the diurnal-nocturnal cycle of a day all give the light we see a different texture. Let us observe both the interplay of light and shadow and life itself closely. - Outfit Design
We can tell one’s historically-specific milieu as well as character from what one wears. Have you thought of what makes the difference between a stage outfit and what we put on in everyday life? How are we to dress someone with a given personality? What effects do different texture, color, and modelling produce? Through hands-on courses of outfit design you will get to know more about the drama of theater garb. - Make-Up
Styling, in toto, involves clothing and make-up. But what are the differences between stage make-up and make-up in real life? Can make-up really change one’s age and appearance? This course will go through basic differences between male and female make-up and a fake wound tutorial. In the tutorial your body will become a canvas on which you reproduce wounds that are commonly seen with tools and techniques provided by the course.
