Weiwuying presents award-winning animation The Snowman and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt live in concert Showcasing the magic in time for Christmas
Come see the snowman and join our bear hunt this Christmas season! National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) will be presenting a concert of two award-winning animation on Friday, December 20th, and Saturday, December 21st. The concert will be conducted by Stuart Hancock himself, the composer for We're Going on a Bear Hunt, and Counterpoint Ensemble, a Kaohsiung chamber orchestra that specializes in family-friendly dual-themed chamber performances. Together, they will be presenting We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, a children's adventure book which sold over nine million copies worldwide, and The Snowman, a classic UK animation that is broadcasted every Christmas. Join Weiwuying before Christmas for a musical feast!
The Snowman will be presented for the first half of the concert, which is accompanied by film scenes with warm-tones that are similar to the book. Although there are no texts or dialogues, the heartwarming friendship between the boy and the snowman takes viewers on a magical adventure. The theme song Walking in the Air is the only music in the film that has lyrics and is specially composed by Howard Blake. The concert will be performed live by boys with angelic voices, enchanting us to soar in a dreamy walk in the air.
The second half of the concert is based on the animation of We're Going on a Bear Hunt by UK children's book author and poet Michael Rosen with illustrations by children's book illustrator Helen Oxenbury. The story tells the exciting adventure of a father and several children as they pass through grass fields, rivers, muddy lands, snowstorms, etc. Finally, the group encounters the bear and is chased all the way back home. The animation soundtrack is composed by multi-award-winning composer Stuart Hancock, whose ingenious portrayal of naughty fart noises, the sound of walking through the mud, the touching moment the girl sees the bear, and the heart-racing run back home brings the story to life.
With the vigor and resources of an international venue, Weiwuying continues to present a variety of different programs while constructing connections between local groups and the global network. This magical concert gathers world-popular picture book animation with the multi-award-winning composer as the conductor, together with Counterpoint Ensemble, a chamber orchestra dedicated to promoting music education. This otherworldly combination will stage a perfect presentation of image and sound, inviting audiences of all ages to join Weiwuying in this heart-warming musical adventure with the snowman and the bear.
