Connecting Taiwan with the World An Exchange between Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and Ballett am Rhein
With help from National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying), Ballett am Rhein, the dance troupe that recently completed their performance of 7 at Weiwuying, participated in an exchange workshop with Cloud Gate Theatre in Taipei today (5th March). The exchange program allowed the two dance troupes to swap choreographers, with Martin Schläpfer, artistic director and chief choreographer of Ballett am Rhein, leading Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, and Lee Ching-chun, associate artistic director of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, leading Ballett am Rhein.
Weiwuying presented the “Weiwuying Master Talk— Dancing with Gustav Mahler” last week, inviting Lin Hwai-min, founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre founder, and Martin Schläpfer, artistic director and chief choreographer of Ballett am Rhein, to engage in conversation with Weiwuying artistic director Chien Wen-pin. The three engaged in open, cheerful conversation, sharing their journey in music and dance. This pleasant engagement between Lin and Schläpfer led to today’s exchange workshop through the help of Weiwuying.
Weiwuying has become an important platform that connects Taiwan with international art. The performance of Ballett am Rhein served a great opportunity for the masterclass and exchange.
