Team Introduction
MIT Saxophone Ensemble
Established in 2013 under the direction of CHEN Kuan-Wen, the MIT Saxophone Ensemble represents Taiwan's pioneering professional group dedicated to the art of saxophone performance and systematic training. A seven-time recipient of the National Culture and Arts Foundation's Taiwan Top award, the ensemble has given nearly 400 performances across Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Croatia.
Since 2016, under the artistic direction of Lars MLEKUSCH of the Zurich University of the Arts, MIT has deepened its engagement with contemporary European repertoire and strengthened its international presence. In 2018, the ensemble premiered the Taiwan-inspired work Benedictus at the World Saxophone Congress in Croatia, becoming the first Taiwanese ensemble to perform on that stage. In 2024, MIT achieved a milestone by presenting a hundred-member saxophone concert at Taiwan's National Concert Hall, followed by the 2025 international festival at Weiwuying, featuring over twenty faculty members and collaboration with the pipe organ. Blending classical, jazz, contemporary, and folk styles, MIT continues to commission works by Taiwanese composers, enriching the saxophone's voice with Taiwan's cultural spirit.
