Conductor|Brian LIAO
Taiwanese conductor Brian LIAO is active on the international stage. He is the First Prize winner of the Lliria International Conducting Competition (Spain), as well as Third Prize and Orchestra Prize winner at the Lovro von Matačić International Conducting Competition (Croatia). He also received Second Prize at the Giancarlo Facchinetti Competition (Italy), Second Prize at the Bucharest Conducting Competition (Romania), Fourth Prize at the Rachmaninoff International Conducting Competition (Russia), and was selected as a semifinalist at the Besançon International Conducting Competition (France).
He has collaborated with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra (Spain), Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Strings, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, among others. LIAO previously served as Assistant Conductor of the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France (France).
Flute|CHANG Shuo-yu
CHANG Shuo-yu has performed as flute soloist, as chamber musician and as flute/piccolo player in a diverse style of Classical music that includes historical performance and contemporary music. In addition to annual flute recital in National Taichung Theater, Shuo-yu had been invited to perform Mozart concerto for flute and harp in National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) (Taiwan), solo piccolo piece in Kobe Bunka Hall (Japan), Vivaldi flute concerto with Baroque Flute at Forbidden City in the Beijing International Baroque Festival (China), and Vivaldi concerto for two piccolos with Jean-Louis Beaumadier (Taiwan). Studied with Philippe LESGOURGUES and Bartholdi KUIJKEN, Shuo-yu has been awarded the Diplôme Superieur de Concertiste and Diplome de Piccolo at Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris ; DEM de Flute Baroque at CNR de Paris. Formerly a member of Taipei Symphony Orchestra and Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra as flutist/piccoloist. He is now Assistant Professor in the Department of Music, National Taichung University of Education.
Counterpoint Ensemble
In 1997, LIANG Kung-ling, the Art Director and founder of Counterpoint Ensemble, gathered the impassioned, professional musicians and built up the Ensemble in Southern Taiwan. The Ensemble has not only performed in chamber music, but also created interdisciplinary program, in which the Ensemble works with visual artists, dancers, and actors to express classical music in the diversified circumstances.
Counterpoint Ensemble had performed in several concert halls in Taiwan, including Kaohsiung and Taipei, also acquired commendation from government for almost a decade. Furthermore, the Ensemble has received commendation from Taiwan Ministry of Culture for 6 years, being the recognition for the Ensemble's effort and quality.
The Ensemble has been invited by the Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival to perform annually for 9 years, also several significant festivals, including TSMC Hsin-Chu Arts Festival, and Tainan Summer Outdoor Music Festival. Recently, the Ensemble embarked on its overseas tour to China and held three sold-out concerts in Soo Chow, Shanghai and Chun Shan, also Beijing Arts Festival. And has been invited to participate in the Alesund Chamber Music Festival in 2017. In addition, we have been invited by National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) in recent years to perform series of concerts, including "Live in Concert", 24 Hours SCHUBERT, 24 Hours MOZART and 24 Hours BEETHOVEN.
