Team Introduction
Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble
Founded in 2008, Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble is the first Baroque ensemble in Taiwan composed of local musicians for early music. Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble performs music play only on early music instruments to bring up the original Baroque sounds and styles.
Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble musicians always like to promote the Baroque arts, culture, and music to the public of Taiwan, to meet the main goals of the Ensemble, based on the musicians' passions and love to the Baroque arts. To achieve the main goals in the long run, the Ensemble conducts all kinds of campaigns to fit the audience needs, and develops more on the drama play to go with the Ensemble's performances. With more than a hundred performances so far, the Ensemble hopes to change the stereotyped thoughts on Baroque arts and music and brings the Baroque arts and music to another level in a more comprehensive way in Taiwan.
Baroque Flute|CHIEN Chih-hsien
CHIEN studied at Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Karl KAISER, earning a Performance Diploma and Konzertexamen. Since 2014, CHIEN has served as music director of Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble, championing Baroque music and shaping its artistic impact across Taiwan.
Baroque Violin|Alexander PILCHEN
PILCHEN studied music in Tchaikovsky State Moscow Conservatory in Moscow, Russia, and University of Tromsø in Tromsø, Norway. PILCHEN got his degree from Trossingen State University of Music in Germany with majors in Baroque orchestra and Baroque violin. PILCHEN is a Baroque violinist of the NZ Barok Orchestra and officially moved to New Zealand in 2021.
Viola da Gamba|CHEN Yi-an
CHEN receives a Master's degree from the Department of Music at Chinese Culture University, specializing in cello. In France, he focused on European early music, majoring in Baroque cello and viola da gamba. He received his advanced diploma from the Conservatoires of Bobigny and Cergy-Pontoise. CHEN currently serves as the leader of the La Chapelle Ensemble.
Baroque Cello|WU E-ting
Born in Kaohsiung, WU graduated from the Department of Music in National Sun Yat-sen University. She participated in the Weiwuying Baroque Music Master Workshops both in 2017 and 2018, and subsequently studied early music and Baroque cello under HUANG Chi-chih of the Essential Sound Baroque Ensemble. WU has performed multiple times with the Ensemble at the Weiwuying Concert Hall.
Harpsichord|LI I-ing
LI has her Master degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. Skilled in Baroque chamber music and continuo playing, LI collaborated with musicians from all over Taiwan and abroad. LI was a former faculty member at the Chinese Culture University and currently she devotes herself to Christian music education.
Harpsichord|CHUANG Fu-jung
CHUANG spent thirteen years studying in Germany, first earning a Master's degree in Recorder Performance from the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, and subsequently a Master's degree in Harpsichord Performance from the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
