The Gleam Ensemble
Team Introduction
The Gleam Ensemble
The word Gleam in Old English refers to a faint yet persistent light, reminiscent of the steady candlelight found in Baroque painting, which creates dramatic contrasts of light and shadow. At the same time, Gleam also symbolizes the Eastern virtues of modesty and humility, reflecting the ensemble’s mission to promote historically informed performance in Taiwan. The group performs on period instruments, applying rigorous scholarly research to interpret music spanning the history of Western art from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the Baroque and early Classical eras.
Its members have won major international competitions and have performed across Europe and Asia, including appearances at the Morges International Organ Festival in Switzerland, the Bad Krozingen Early Music Festival in Germany, the Morella Early Music Festival in Spain, and the Sacred Music Festival in South Korea. The ensemble has established international collaborations with Capella de Ministrers (Spain), InAlto (Belgium), and La Risonanza (Italy). In 2025, it will join the European Early Music Network (REMA). In 2026, the ensemble will launch the Gleam International Early Music Festival: 400 Years of Spain, marking a new chapter in Taiwan’s early music scene on an international scale.
