[2025 Weiwuying Circus Platform] Antinomy Company - A Place with Folds
The big top of a circus is a symbolic architecture that represents the mobility of the circus. It is also a temporary structure. When the circus tours, the big top, a foldable structure, creates a performance space and provides a shelter for the audiences; meanwhile, it bears witness to the migration and transient residence of the circus members. It is even a place where the circus members place their bodies and memories. These big tops and tents are not only shelters but also makeshift homes for the circus family—erected, and then dismantled and folded away. The folds are proof that the memories and bodies were once present; they are the imprints left by both time and physical existence.
In the contemporary public space, however, the big top has already transcended its practical function and has become the visual summons and the prototype of collective experience. In an era where everything flows continuously, a new form of dwelling is needed: not permanent settlements, but temporary stays over; not resisting migration, but coexisting with space between the folds. In response to the 2025 Weiwuying Circus Platform's curatorial theme "Inverting the Ordinary, All Things in Flow," A Place with Folds centers the core concept "spaces between the folds," extending the reimagination of deconstructing the circus' "big top." The folds redefine the idea of "shelters," exploring the space possibility that is open to migrating, accommodating, and rest and seeing the big top as more than a fixed structure. Spectators are welcome to enter the space—to lean, sit, or lie down—and to discover their own spot to rest between each fold.

Team Introduction
Antinomy Company
Antinomy Company is a fluid and multi-modal creative collective that engages with the entangled relationships between body, memory, and site within contemporary contexts. Guided by the core principles of "multiple forms, multiple participation, and multiple care," the collective explores the layered ambiguities found in artistic materials, narrative structures, and modes of presentation. Working with text, body, light, sound, and space as materials, the company develops artistic practices that span across theater, sound, corporeality, and installation. Their long-term creative focus includes the re-narration of island memories in Asia, the embodied experiences of non-professional performers, and the perceptual reconfiguration of site-specific contexts, seeking to foster multifaceted dialogues between art and society. Their production The Going has been nominated for the Sound Design Award at the 2025 World Stage Design.
