►[Libretto] 24 Hours TCHAIKOVSKY-Songs and Arias of TCHAIKOVSKY Lecture Concert
Program Curator|CHIAO Yuan-pu
TCHAIKOVSKY's vocal works and operas span his entire career and exhibit his extraordinary talent in both melody and literary capacity. This concert and songs chosen for the Selected Vocal Works series will together present some of his 103 vocal works, representing each of his song collections that have opus numbers and giving us a subtle, detailed look at how he handled this genre. In the realm of opera, the concert will focus on his late works, The Queen of Spades and Iolanta, showing his increasingly ingenious organizational technique and mastery of structure. We will talk about how the composer designed the settings for his vocal works, contemplated texts, composed works based on the work of famous Russian authors, and wrote his own poetry. To finish, we will shift our focus to his insight in composing for music-based theatrical works, including how he applied motivation and tonality to shape his characters. If you’re a classical music lover, come to learn about the tragedy, joy, and originality in TCHAIKOVSKY's vocal works.
