Ruff, ruff, ruff! Did you know that Weiwuying has its own paw patrol?
How we got our guard dogs
Weiwuying's guard dog squad consists of Xiao Mi, Xiao Bai, Happy, and Xiao Hei*.
Most of these furry friends were strays who hung around when Weiwuying was being built. When the construction was nearly done, Weiwuying General and Artistic Director CHIEN Wen-pin took them in and had them trained, giving them not only a home but also the big responsibility of guarding the grounds to make the security staff's job easier. That's how we got our guard dog squad!
Each of our dogs has an implanted chip with "National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying)" as the registered name.
Please be good to animals. If destiny has brought some to you, love them forever. And please adopt a stray instead of buying a pet, and don’t abandon or harm your pets. Let's do what we can to protect animals!
Xiao Mi
Xiao Mi was abandoned by her owner. She was taken in by a shelter and given basic training, joining our squad a year after Weiwuying opened. She's outgoing and loves people. She's our "PR princess."
Xiao Bai
Xiao Bai, the first dog to be taken in by Weiwuying, started hanging around in the early stages of construction. He and Xiao Hei became best buds (the two were lovingly known as "Double Trouble"). He's mellow and second only to Xiao Mi in her affection for people. He was the quickest learner during training.
Happy
Happy got stuck below the foundation of the building during construction after several days of heavy rain and was saved by a security guard, after which Weiwuying took her in as a guard dog. She's really shy and often gets nervous, so her patrol area is mainly the southern lawn area.
Xiao Hei
Xiao Hei, who could even scare away a Doberman pinscher and clearly felt a duty to protect against strangers, usually stayed around the doghouse to keep it safe.
*On August 17, 2023, Xiao Hei went to dog heaven. We thank him for him years of loving, loyal service.
Guard dog tasks
Xiao Mi is in charge of public relations and patrolling, while Happy and Xiao Bai just patrol. They do their rounds from about 15:30 to 17:30 every day. They circle the grounds once, changing their routes at times, and sometimes they're brought to the semi-outdoor area of Banyan Plaza.
Note: If you want to interact with them while they're patrolling, please ask the person in charge of them first.
