At the beginning of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Nietzsche used the circus tightrope walker as an analogy for the Übermensch ("Over human"). Performers or animals that appear in traditional circuses are far from ordinary. For instance, animals that underwent circus training come to possess a certain extent of humanity, thus becoming the Übermensch among other animals. As for human performers, superb jugglers, the flying trapeze, or animal tamers bring a sense of awe and amazement to the audience. Unlike traditional theatre, television, or film, circus performers utilize techniques that surpass ordinary abilities and epitomize a superhero who transcends the limitations of the self.
\n\nThemed "Superhero", the 2023 Weiwuying Circus Platform not only celebrates the circus but also expands its boundaries beyond the traditional tent. By incorporating elements from daily life and transcending cultural boundaries, this platform invites viewers to witness how one can become a superhero and Nietzsche's "Übermensch" by daring to break free from their limitations and achieving the impossible, becoming the stuntman of life.

Theatre, consecutively awarded the "Creativity Award" of Artistic Performance division of World Yo-Yo Contest from 2013-2015, was founded by a group of performers who are non-professionally trained but passionate for diabolos and yo-yos. Since its inception, the Theatre has garnered numerous awards. In this new work, performers use the spinning motions of diabolos and yo-yos to recreate the industrial production line on stage. This aims to showcase the artisan spirit honed in the industry, and to forge a magnificent visual art.

\n\n很小的時候看過臺灣的馬戲團演出,但內容幾乎全忘,只模糊記得場地附近的牢籠充斥著動物的糞便味,帳篷裡木頭搭的圓形觀眾席。這個回憶對我來說,揭露了空間的重要性。關鍵不是動物表演是否為馬戲所必須,任何事物只要進入這個遊戲空間,都有機會成為馬戲世界的一部分。開放的觀眾席,則說明這是一個觀眾與觀眾,觀眾與演出相遇的神奇之地。因此,我將2022年馬戲平台的策展主題設定為「非常世界,非常遊戲」。
\n\n為了搭配策展主題,我們凸顯了馬戲作為相遇空間的特質,將衛武營的樹洞,以象徵的設計手法,塑造成馬戲帳篷的樣貌,並安排了好幾個創意遊戲的裝置藝術,期待觀眾到此地時,馬上能感受到那種要與超現實事物相遇的節慶感。
\n\n衛武營馬戲平台自2016年創立以來,一直秉持著結合專業交流與大眾演出這兩個面向。在專業交流上,不但有法國國立馬戲學校的新魔術工作坊,還有馬戲創意製作人工作坊,希望能藉此強化未來國內馬戲的節目企劃。在演出上,廣邀包括高雄在內的國內團隊,還有來自法國與東南亞的表演,試圖展現出馬戲身體背後的多元文化。作為專業的表演藝術平台,最重要的任務就是孕育新的節目誕生。今年衛武營馬平台也首度與雲林國際偶戲節、桃園鐵玫瑰藝術節合作,共同委任與邀約了《採藥記》與《艾拉—第一次造訪》兩個新節目。
\n\n馬戲本來就是無所不包,這種包容性,最終亦需包含觀眾的多樣性。希望今年的整體策畫,能讓所有的觀眾在這個非常的世界裡,能夠盡興遊戲。

\n\n在過去的時代裡,馬戲團為了巡演的便利性和私人售票的雙重機制,延伸出對於馬戲棚的發明概念和需求。隨著時間的演進,馬戲棚的概念與意義已經逐漸地流變轉化成各種不同的樣態。即便如此,馬戲仍然持續地與「空間、物件、身體」保持著相當親密的關係,而這樣緊密的關係,也將會是此次整體設計之主要目標。

\n\n【樹洞耳機電影院】台語有影・紀錄片《地下藝人》
\n\n「弄鐃」(lāng-lâu)是臺灣喪葬儀式中一項古老的傳統技藝。
\n\n喪家舉辦法事中,黑頭師公(道士)以自身的技藝如特技、雜耍、音樂與戲曲表演,表達對亡者的慎終追遠,撫慰喪家的悲慟,娛人且娛靈。這個古老行業通常世代傳承,如同一個微型的家族馬戲班。
\n\n本片記錄了臺灣弄鐃家族「桃園許家班」祖孫三代的故事,他們從小練習打鼓、吹嗩吶、弄鐃鈸,各各技藝精湛、法術高強。他們的身影出現在街頭、廣場和家家戶戶,輪番上演目連救母、十月懷胎、打火盆、跑藥懺、跑赦馬、化庫錢等,對悲傷的療癒衍生出來的種種科儀,亦是草根的街頭劇場,隨著時代變遷,也融入新的文化意涵。

\n\nI remember seeing a circus when I was very young but have almost completely forgotten everything about it except the smell of animal feces from a cage near the venue and the round, wooden seating in the tent. This memory shows me the importance of space. Animals are not a must for a circus; anything in the space can be part of the circus. An open seating arrangement shows that this is a place where people in the audience can interact with each other and the performances. This is why I designated the theme for the 2022 Weiwuying Circus Platform "Extraordinary World, Extraordinary Games."

In accordance with the theme, we are highlighting how a circus can be a place of gathering. Through design, we will turn the Weiwuying Wonderland into a circus tent, and there will be several creative installations in which visitors can play games and interact. Upon arriving, they will immediately feel a sense of excitement and surrealism.
\n\n
\nSince the first Weiwuying Circus Platform in 2016, we have always incorporated professional exchanges with performances. For the former, this year, we will have the Workshop for Creative Producers in Circus, put on by Weiwuying, and the New Magic Masterclass, put on by France's National Center for Circus Arts, to enhance Taiwan's future circus programs. As for performances, we will have Taiwanese groups (including one from Kaohsiung) and acts from France and Southeast Asia, presenting the cultural diversity that can be found in the circus industry. As a performing arts platform, the most important task is to serve as a place to propagate new programs. This will be the first year for the platform to coproduce programs with the Yunlin International Puppet Theater Festival and the Taoyuan Iron Rose Music Festival, bringing us Get Well Soon and Ayla - The First Visit.
Anything can be in a circus. Such inclusiveness must also take the diversity of the audience into consideration. I hope the event will allow everyone who comes to fully enjoy themselves in this extraordinary world!

Antinomy Company Installations
\n\nIn the past, circus groups derived the concept and need for inventing circus tents to facilitate touring circuses and adopt the dual mechanism of private ticketing. Over time, the concept and meaning of circus tents have evolved. Nevertheless, the circus remains closely related to "space, objects, and body", and such a close-knit relationship is the main goal of this overall design.
\n\nCreative team Antinomy Company participated in the Weiwuying Circus Platform for the first time, transforming Banyan Plaza into a Banyan Circus Tent. The team proposed "returning to space, to objects, and to the body" to embrace the evolution and metaphor of space, objects, and body in circus development.

Among them, "magic" is a classic of spectacle, which can also add mystery to the performance. "CNAC National Circus Art Center – New Magic Master Class," will cover the areas of understanding magic and new magic, the role of new magic plays, and the development and application of new magic in contemporary circus. This professional workshop will lead participants to explore the possibility of creating new kinetic energy with new magic. \n\nWorkshop for Creative Producer in Circus will invite national circus experts to share their production experience, brainstorm program concepts, and develop them into proposals for Weiwuying's circus platform, to make our dreams come true. We welcome all theater program departments, municipal cultural bureaus and performance halls, art festival curators, creators, and friends interested in circus production work to participate in this workshop. 2021衛武營馬戲平台以「馬戲·人生」為策展主題,蓄積了自2016年開辦以來的能量,邀請臺灣從南到北,以及世界5大洲超過百位的馬戲表演和影像工作者,聚焦這群以馬戲與影像為志業的人生漫遊者,帶來他們經歷世紀瘟疫的變局前後,透過創作對於社會狀態所提出的回應和行動,包括:2場【馬戲實境秀】新創作品、3場數位直送【馬戲體驗工作坊】、4檔【馬戲馬拉松】現場演出、4場【馬戲行內話】雲端講座、為期7天【打開排練室】之國立臺灣戲曲學院民俗技藝學系【雲端移地教學】、40小時不斷電【馬戲藝術家雲端駐地計畫】舞蹈與馬戲特技創作應用2.0,以及30天無休的【短片影展】和【攝影展】。

位在臺北市邊緣的社子島,FOCA福爾摩沙馬戲團多年來在地創(工)作、生活,陳冠廷導演的《嘛係人》展現這群馬戲專家在常人與超人角色轉換的競合關係,而在《消逝之島》一片中,則看見他們透過馬戲表演,直陳市井小民因都市更新被迫拆遷而爭取基本居住權的答辯。

在都市開發快速又繁華的臺北城和臺中市,《街頭作品實驗室》的新秀與明日之星們、斜槓街頭藝術家徐開炫、紅鼻子馬戲團陳信達與導演許瀚中、劉彥成與大身體製造,穿梭在街頭、公共空間、劇場和數位環境,重新思考表演的現場性,再創造新生活中的劇場場景;創造焦點的女子馬戲系列《#Since1994》藉由她們的衣櫃,借鏡當代社會對於女性審美觀、身體自主、刻板標籤及道德標準的定義。

過了濁水溪,跟著圓劇團來到藝陣文化重鎮的臺南學甲,與在地師傅們學習傳統技藝,發揮共學和共享的精神;南下港都的狂夢藝術,探訪曾有百年記憶、位居南來北往軍事要塞的衛武營,走入社區紀錄不同世代和住民在鳳山新城生根發展的故事。

首次推出的短片影展,呈現世界的馬戲創作風貌:從日本瀨戶內海到柬埔寨暹粒市,看見馬戲可以作為改變社會、生命教育和在地創生的藝術行動;赤道以南的澳洲布里斯本,跟著馬戲表演者學習接納自己真實的樣貌,尊重彼此的不同與共生;沿著赤道往東到拉丁美洲的巴西、哥倫比亞和墨西哥,在疫情擴散的焦慮下,馬戲表演能創造幽默和希望,感受當地文化獨特的創意美學和革命思潮;再往東到非洲衣索比亞,在鏡頭下驚嘆當地馬戲表演者生命的韌性和天空下馬戲的原貌;在富足安定的英國、法國和加拿大,看見困境中藝術工作者的人文關懷,探尋個人之於環境的生命意義、追求美學實踐和重生後的創作力量。

臺灣不同世代的馬戲和雜技工作者,積極的透過技術切磋、對話思考和田野調查的方式持續進化中。他們走入各地城市鄉鎮和社區街道追本溯源,在進駐與移動間,翻轉了臺灣獨有的身體美學,更為城市、社區和居民帶入新的刺激和想像,創造了特有的在地風景,也留下不可磨滅的印記。

\n\n「亞洲馬戲網絡」(Circus Asia Network, CAN) 由韓國首爾街頭藝術創作中心 (Seoul Street Arts Creation Center, SSACC) 於2017年發起,促成2018年由來自7個亞洲及太平洋地區的國家,共13個機構與團體共同成立,以長期交流與培育為方法,共同促進區域內的當代馬戲發展。

TOHU當代馬戲藝術製作與推廣中心
\n\n2020年7月,由加拿大TOHU當代馬戲藝術製作與推廣中心(TOHU)籌劃的「當代馬戲國際展會」 (International Market of Contemporary Circus, MICC)發起「亞洲與澳洲工作小組」(Asia & Australia Working Group),由衛武營馬戲平台與澳洲Cluster Arts馬戲製作團隊共同策劃推動亞洲與澳洲區域間馬戲交流與產業生態之討論,為期一年的亞澳工作小組,在CAN亞洲馬戲網絡成員的共同協助下,於2021年7月發表第一版亞澳馬戲地圖 (Asia & Australia Circus Map)。
\n\n2021年11-12月間,衛武營國家藝術文化中心與TOHU當代馬戲藝術製作與推廣中心啟動新的交流計畫,透過主題馬戲大師班及工作坊策劃,邀請臺灣與加拿大新銳馬戲創作人才定期參與共學交流,透過促進雙邊馬戲創作者了解彼此從訓練、創作到文化脈絡上的異同,進而開拓未來合作的契機。

As one of the most dynamic and flexible performing arts in contemporary society, the circus has been wandering between mainstream values and the fringe of society since the 18th century.
\n\n\n\n
With the curatorial theme of "Circus - Life," the 2021 Circus Platform has been gaining momentum since its inception in 2016, inviting more than 100 circus performers and video artists across Taiwan and the five continents to showcase their responses to the social conditions during the pandemic through their creative works. The program features two Circus Live Shows, three online Circus Workshops, 4 Circus Marathon physical performances, 4 Circus Insider Talk cloud lectures, 7-day Open Studio Cloud-Based Training by the Department of Acrobatics of the National Taiwan College of Performing Arts, the 40-hour Circus Artist Cloud Residency Program Dance and Circus Stunt Creation 2.0, and the 30-day Short Film Festival and Photo Exhibition.

FOCA has been creating and living in Shezidao, located on the outskirts of Taipei City, for many years. These FOCA artists' competing relationship between human and superhuman is documented in CHEN Kuan-ting's Circus As Folks. In Disappearing Island, we see them present a circus performance about the defense of housing rights for the inhabitants evicted due to urban renewal.

In the rapidly growing and bustling cities of Taipei and Taichung, the Street Act Lab's rising stars, HSU Kai-hsuan, On. P. Young's CHEN Hsin-da and director HSU Han-chung, Dua Shin Te Productions featuring LIU Yen-cheng, travel through the streets, public areas, theater, and virtual spaces to rethink the live-ness of performance and recreate theatrical scenes for a new life. By diving into the female wardrobe, Eye Catching Circus #Since1994 explores the definitions of aesthetics, bodily autonomy, stereotypes, and moral standards in society and the relationships between people.

South of Zhuoshuei River, follow Thunar Circus to Syuejia, Tainan, a major town of din-tao culture, to learn traditional techniques with local masters and bring out the spirit of learning and sharing. LIT ART traveled south to Kaohsiung to visit Weiwuying, a century-old military fortress, and went into the community to record the stories of how different generations of residents made Fengshan their home.

The first-ever short film festival presents circus creations worldwide. From Seto Inland Sea, Japan to Siem Reap, Cambodia, see how circus can promote social change, life education, and local creativity. South of the equator, in Brisbane, Australia, follow circus artists as they learn to accept themselves, respect each other's differences, and co-exist. Travel east along the equator to Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico, where circus can create humor and hope amidst the anxiety of a spreading pandemic and experience their cultures' unique creative aesthetics and revolutionary thinking. Further east to Ethiopia, Africa, we marvel at the resilience of local circus performers and circus in its original form under the sky. In affluent and prosperous Britain, France, and Canada, we see the humanitarian care of artists in times of hardship, exploring the meaning of life concerning the environment, pursuing aesthetic practice, and the power of creativity after rebirth.

The Taiwanese circus and acrobats artists of different generations are actively evolving through technical exchanges, dialogues, and fieldwork. They have gone into cities, towns, and communities to trace their roots. Between their residency and travels, they have reversed Taiwan's unique physical aesthetics and brought new excitement and imagination to cities, communities, and residents, creating unique local landscapes and leaving indelible marks.

\n\nA Connected Weiwuying
\n\nFrom upstream creative formation, midstream production to downstream promotion, the Weiwuying Circus Platform develops a point-line-plane support system with domestic and foreign professional partners (organizations and performing arts groups) through a multi-faceted cooperative strategy focusing on creativity, production, talent development and program promotion. At the same time, we continue to match different resources for creators, organizations, and performing arts teams to promote opportunities for local and international professionals to travel to and from Weiwuying for exchanges to build momentum for the sustainable creation and performance of Taiwan's contemporary circus

\n\nThe Circus Asia Network (CAN) was initiated by Seoul Street Arts Creation Center (SSACC) in 2017 and actualized by 13 organizations and institutions from seven Asian-Pacific countries in 2018 to develop contemporary circus in the region through long-term exchange and fostering programs.
\n\nFrom 2018 to 2019, the network members held conferences and annual meetings in Seoul, Takamatsu, and Kaohsiung to map out the blueprint and possibilities of Asian circus jointly. In 2019, National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) and SSACC co-produced the Circus Asia Residency (CAR), a dual residency program to support the creative development of young artists. The network also comprises Producer DOT Group (Korea), FOCA (Taiwan), and Hsingho Co., Ltd (Taiwan), the Setouchi Circus Factory (Japan), Phare-the Cambodia Circus, Phare Ponleu Selapak (Cambodia), Association of Mongolian Circus, Angels Center of Acrobatic & Contortion (Mongolia); Komunitas Salihara Arts Center (Indonesia); National Institute of Circus Art (Australia) and Circus OZ (Australia).

TOHU
\n\nIn July 2020, the International Market of Contemporary Circus (MICC), organized by TOHU (Canada), launched the Asia & Australia Working Group, which is headed by the Weiwuying Circus Platform and Cluster Arts (Australia) to promote the exchange and discussion of circus industry between Asia and Australia. The first edition of the Asia & Australia Circus Map was published in July 2021 with the help of CAN members.
\n\nIn November-December 2021, Weiwuying and TOHU will launch a new exchange project, inviting emerging circus artists from Taiwan and Canada to participate in regular exchanges through thematic circus master classes and workshops, and to promote mutual understanding of the similarities and differences between circus artists from both sides in terms of training, creation and cultural contexts, to open up opportunities for future collaboration.

\n\nQ1:衛武營馬戲平台至今第五年,用策展人角度觀看有什麼不同之處?
\n\n回顧2016年,當時的衛武營只有一個舊軍舍改造的小劇場黑盒空間,空間高度至多3米,能運用的空間非常有限。當時雖還未參與策展,但令人印象深刻的是短短兩天吸引超過5,000人參與。高雄地域環境和氣候的優勢,舒爽的好天氣及戶外大空間,這些先天條件非常適合舉辦戶外活動,無論是藝術家或一般大眾,都在兩天活動擁有豐富多元的交流。
\n\n2018衛武營開幕,我們在節目策畫上,必須要考量的面向更全面,以及盡可能的在室內與戶外的空間和節目策展的內容上能取得比較和諧的平衡。蒼狐的女兒們《走鋼索的女子》,本來是【2020衛武營馬戲平台】試圖去凸顯空間和性別平權的討論,很可惜因疫情取消,許多國外優秀團隊、策展人無法參與,希望未來全球疫情趨緩能再有機會邀請來衛武營做精彩演出。

Q2:在總監的領導下,共同創造哪些在地連結?
\n\n因為高雄和高雄人的支持,衛武營才可以勇敢且大膽的每年推出【衛武營馬戲平台】。作為連結的衛武營,持續透過國外專業馬戲創作師資,與國內馬戲人才培訓機構不間斷的交流,透過駐地創作計畫,進行在地文化地景踏查。
\n\n透過大眾體驗馬戲技巧,讓學習創意不受限於年齡、性別和體能達到平權目的。作為馬戲人的家,衛武營持續鏈結國內外的人才和機構的資源,以高雄為創意基地,持續在國際舞台發聲。無論是參 與亞洲馬戲網絡、馬戲藝術節、論壇、工作坊,乃至於現在新興的 雲端論壇等,把臺灣馬戲生態的脈動分享給世界各地從事馬戲工作的朋友們,促成更多的了解和開啟日後交流的契機。

Q3:策展衷旨中,希望傳達什麼訊息給一般大眾?
\n\n經過這幾年,我深刻的體認到衛武營不僅是一個國家文化培力生根的藝術文化中心,更是全民的社會藝術大學。作為社會文化教育場所,衛武營有著不同於其他私人文化機構或場所的公共使命與任務。我們作為文化傳遞者的角色,便是持續不斷的思考在藝術創作與社會議題之間取得平衡,並且透過藝術活動幫助不同文化群體間的理解與溝通。讓上一代、這一代和下一代,透過文化傳承、轉譯與創新,達到不同世代文化背景的群體能彼此共融、和樂的生活在臺灣這塊土地上。同總監所說,衛武營是馬戲人的家,是創作過程孵育的實驗場域。能和馬戲人一起將臺灣馬戲生態逐步改善到位,讓民眾感受馬戲的創新思考,觀察日常生活中不同的樂趣,以及看待人事物更活潑、人性的方式。

連結的衛武營 ─ 國際夥伴計畫
\n\n亞洲馬戲網絡
\n\n衛武營為新成立的「亞洲馬戲網絡」(CAN - Circus Asia Network)的成員,與其他各亞 洲馬戲夥伴定期聚會以及交流,討論關於如何促進區域間對於當代馬戲的關注和資訊。亞洲馬 戲網絡於 2017 年正式成立,由來自 7 個亞洲太平洋地區的國家(澳洲、柬埔寨、印尼、日本、 韓國、蒙古和臺灣),共 12 名成員共同成立。CAN 網絡成立的主要目的希冀能透過成員們的 密切合作,在亞洲建構適合給當代馬戲團體和創作者發展與創作的環境。

\n\nQ1:Weiwuying Circus Platform is in its fifth year. From a curator's perspective, what has changed over the years?
\n\nLooking back at 2016Weiwuying was just a black box in an old military dormitory with minimal space and a maximum height of 3 meters. At that time, I had yet participated in the curation in the first Weiwuying Circus Platform. In the end, it attracted more than 5,000 people in just two days, which was utterly impressive.
\n\n2018 was the year of Weiwuying's grand opening, so we had a more extensive curation that tried to strike a balance between indoor and outdoor spaces and program content.
\n\nInitially, the 2020 Weiwuying Circus Platform tried to open discussions on space and gender equality through Les Filles du Renard Pâle’s Résiste. Sadly, it was canceled due to the
\n\npandemic. Similarly, many excellent foreign teams and curators were unable to participate in this year's events. I hope we get another chance to invite them and their wonderful performances back once the pandemic slows down in the future.
\n\n\n\n
Q2: Under the artistic director’s leadership, what kind of local connections were established?
\n\nAs a bridge, Weiwuying promotes exchanges between foreign professional circus instructors and local circus institutions and conducts regional cultural surveys through artists residency projects.
\n\nHolding public experiences of circus skills allows people to learn creativity regardless of age, gender, and physical fitness, thus fulfilling cultural rights. As the home to circus talents, Weiwuying continues to pair talents with institutional resources at home and abroad.
\n\nWith Kaohsiung as their creative base, they continue to shine on the international stage.
\n\nBy participating in the Circus Asia Network, circus festivals, forums, workshops, or even the emerging online forums, etc., Weiwuying shares the trend of Taiwan's circus community with fellow circus professionals worldwide, promotes mutual understanding, and develops opportunities for future exchanges.
\n\n\n\n
Q3: What message do you wish to convey to the general public in your curatorial statement?
\n\nOver the past few years, I realized that Weiwuying is not just an art center where national culture is rooted; it is also a community art college for the people. As a place for cultural education, Weiwuying's mission and purpose are different than those of private cultural institutions or facilities. As a cultural transmitter, our role is to continuously think about the balance between artistic creations and social issues and promote understanding and communication between different cultural groups through artistic events.
\n\nThrough cultural inheritance, translation, and innovation, different generations and cultural groups can live harmoniously in Taiwan.

A Connected Weiwuying ─ the International Partnership Project
\n\nSince 2016, the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) has introduced three international exchange platforms: Taiwan Dance Platform, Weiwuying Circus Platform, and Weiwuying Contemporary Music Platform; and organized the Weiwuying International Symposium and Academy for Creative Producers and professional talent training workshops. Through these multifaceted projects, Weiwuying has established several long-term collaborative partnerships with domestic and international venues and institutions with a focus on supporting artistic production and promotion, residency, talent training, and audience development. These projects obtain resources for circus artists and companies, create exchange opportunities between domestic and international circus professionals, and gather momentum for creating art in Taiwan.

CAN - Circus Asia Network
\n\nAs a member of Circus Asia Network (CAN), Weiwuying regularly meets and exchanges ideas with other members of the network to stay updated for the latest development in contemporary circus. Circus Asia Network (CAN) was officially established in 2017 thanks to 12 founding organizations based in 7 Asia-Pacific countries (Australia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, and Taiwan). Its main objective is to cultivate an environment for contemporary circus companies and organizations in Asia through the close collaboration of its members.

CNAC - Centre National des Arts du Cirque
\n\nA space for education, innovation, and research, the National Centre for Circus Arts (CNAC - Centre National des Arts du Cirque), an internationally recognized institution, was established in 1985 by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication. The CNAC has two main missions—one for higher education in circus arts and the other for resources, studies, and academic research. The CNAC, which continues to garner international acclaim, has stayed true to its roots and is committed to protecting the fundamental spirit of the circus and its values, including rigor, self-control, teamwork, and respect for others. Offering first-class training, the CNAC endeavors to be at the cutting edge of educational, artistic, and technical innovation in order to better serve students, researchers, circus professionals, and more broadly, the field of performing arts.

\n\n很小的時候看過臺灣的馬戲團演出,但內容幾乎全忘,只模糊記得場地附近的牢籠充斥著動物的糞便味,帳篷裡木頭搭的圓形觀眾席。這個回憶對我來說,揭露了空間的重要性。關鍵不是動物表演是否為馬戲所必須,任何事物只要進入這個遊戲空間,都有機會成為馬戲世界的一部分。開放的觀眾席,則說明這是一個觀眾與觀眾,觀眾與演出相遇的神奇之地。因此,我將2022年馬戲平台的策展主題設定為「非常世界,非常遊戲」。
\n\n為了搭配策展主題,我們凸顯了馬戲作為相遇空間的特質,將衛武營的樹洞,以象徵的設計手法,塑造成馬戲帳篷的樣貌,並安排了好幾個創意遊戲的裝置藝術,期待觀眾到此地時,馬上能感受到那種要與超現實事物相遇的節慶感。
\n\n衛武營馬戲平台自2016年創立以來,一直秉持著結合專業交流與大眾演出這兩個面向。在專業交流上,不但有法國國立馬戲學校的新魔術工作坊,還有馬戲創意製作人工作坊,希望能藉此強化未來國內馬戲的節目企劃。在演出上,廣邀包括高雄在內的國內團隊,還有來自法國與東南亞的表演,試圖展現出馬戲身體背後的多元文化。作為專業的表演藝術平台,最重要的任務就是孕育新的節目誕生。今年衛武營馬平台也首度與雲林國際偶戲節、桃園鐵玫瑰藝術節合作,共同委任與邀約了《採藥記》與《艾拉—第一次造訪》兩個新節目。
\n\n馬戲本來就是無所不包,這種包容性,最終亦需包含觀眾的多樣性。希望今年的整體策畫,能讓所有的觀眾在這個非常的世界裡,能夠盡興遊戲。

二律悖反協作體 藝術裝置
\n\n在過去的時代裡,馬戲團為了巡演的便利性和私人售票的雙重機制,延伸出對於馬戲棚的發明概念和需求。隨著時間的演進,馬戲棚的概念與意義已經逐漸地流變轉化成各種不同的樣態。即便如此,馬戲仍然持續地與「空間、物件、身體」保持著相當親密的關係,而這樣緊密的關係,也將會是此次整體設計之主要目標。
\n\n創意團隊二律悖反協作體首次參與衛武營馬戲平台,將榕樹廣場打造為樹洞馬戲棚,並以「回到空間、回到物件、回到身體」提案,來回應馬戲發展之中的空間、物件和身體之演變和隱喻。

\n\n【樹洞耳機電影院】台語有影・紀錄片《地下藝人》
\n\n「弄鐃」(lāng-lâu)是臺灣喪葬儀式中一項古老的傳統技藝。
\n\n喪家舉辦法事中,黑頭師公(道士)以自身的技藝如特技、雜耍、音樂與戲曲表演,表達對亡者的慎終追遠,撫慰喪家的悲慟,娛人且娛靈。這個古老行業通常世代傳承,如同一個微型的家族馬戲班。
\n\n本片記錄了臺灣弄鐃家族「桃園許家班」祖孫三代的故事,他們從小練習打鼓、吹嗩吶、弄鐃鈸,各各技藝精湛、法術高強。他們的身影出現在街頭、廣場和家家戶戶,輪番上演目連救母、十月懷胎、打火盆、跑藥懺、跑赦馬、化庫錢等,對悲傷的療癒衍生出來的種種科儀,亦是草根的街頭劇場,隨著時代變遷,也融入新的文化意涵。

Extraordinary Games" and transforms Weiwuying Wonderland into a symbolic circus tent, welcoming audiences into the magical and cheery world of the circus. The week-long event will not only allow visitors to enjoy outstanding performances of Taiwan and international performers but also for both adults and children to indulge in play and witness the marvels of the world.

\n\nI remember seeing a circus when I was very young but have almost completely forgotten everything about it except the smell of animal feces from a cage near the venue and the round, wooden seating in the tent. This memory shows me the importance of space. Animals are not a must for a circus; anything in the space can be part of the circus. An open seating arrangement shows that this is a place where people in the audience can interact with each other and the performances. This is why I designated the theme for the 2022 Weiwuying Circus Platform "Extraordinary World, Extraordinary Games."

In accordance with the theme, we are highlighting how a circus can be a place of gathering. Through design, we will turn the Weiwuying Wonderland into a circus tent, and there will be several creative installations in which visitors can play games and interact. Upon arriving, they will immediately feel a sense of excitement and surrealism.
\n\n
\nSince the first Weiwuying Circus Platform in 2016, we have always incorporated professional exchanges with performances. For the former, this year, we will have the Workshop for Creative Producers in Circus, put on by Weiwuying, and the New Magic Masterclass, put on by France's National Center for Circus Arts, to enhance Taiwan's future circus programs. As for performances, we will have Taiwanese groups (including one from Kaohsiung) and acts from France and Southeast Asia, presenting the cultural diversity that can be found in the circus industry. As a performing arts platform, the most important task is to serve as a place to propagate new programs. This will be the first year for the platform to coproduce programs with the Yunlin International Puppet Theater Festival and the Taoyuan Iron Rose Music Festival, bringing us Get Well Soon and Ayla - The First Visit.
Anything can be in a circus. Such inclusiveness must also take the diversity of the audience into consideration. I hope the event will allow everyone who comes to fully enjoy themselves in this extraordinary world!

\n\nIn the past, circus groups derived the concept and need for inventing circus tents to facilitate touring circuses and adopt the dual mechanism of private ticketing. Over time, the concept and meaning of circus tents have evolved. Nevertheless, the circus remains closely related to "space, objects, and body", and such a close-knit relationship is the main goal of this overall design.
\n\nCreative team Antinomy Company participated in the Weiwuying Circus Platform for the first time, transforming Banyan Plaza into a Banyan Circus Tent. The team proposed "returning to space, to objects, and to the body" to embrace the evolution and metaphor of space, objects, and body in circus development.

\n\n很小的時候看過臺灣的馬戲團演出,但內容幾乎全忘,只模糊記得場地附近的牢籠充斥著動物的糞便味,帳篷裡木頭搭的圓形觀眾席。這個回憶對我來說,揭露了空間的重要性。關鍵不是動物表演是否為馬戲所必須,任何事物只要進入這個遊戲空間,都有機會成為馬戲世界的一部分。開放的觀眾席,則說明這是一個觀眾與觀眾,觀眾與演出相遇的神奇之地。因此,我將2022年馬戲平台的策展主題設定為「非常世界,非常遊戲」。
\n\n為了搭配策展主題,我們凸顯了馬戲作為相遇空間的特質,將衛武營的樹洞,以象徵的設計手法,塑造成馬戲帳篷的樣貌,並安排了好幾個創意遊戲的裝置藝術,期待觀眾到此地時,馬上能感受到那種要與超現實事物相遇的節慶感。
\n\n衛武營馬戲平台自2016年創立以來,一直秉持著結合專業交流與大眾演出這兩個面向。在專業交流上,不但有法國國立馬戲學校的新魔術工作坊,還有馬戲創意製作人工作坊,希望能藉此強化未來國內馬戲的節目企劃。在演出上,廣邀包括高雄在內的國內團隊,還有來自法國與東南亞的表演,試圖展現出馬戲身體背後的多元文化。作為專業的表演藝術平台,最重要的任務就是孕育新的節目誕生。今年衛武營馬平台也首度與雲林國際偶戲節、桃園鐵玫瑰藝術節合作,共同委任與邀約了《採藥記》與《艾拉—第一次造訪》兩個新節目。
\n\n馬戲本來就是無所不包,這種包容性,最終亦需包含觀眾的多樣性。希望今年的整體策畫,能讓所有的觀眾在這個非常的世界裡,能夠盡興遊戲。

\n\n【樹洞耳機電影院】台語有影・紀錄片《地下藝人》
\n\n「弄鐃」(lāng-lâu)是臺灣喪葬儀式中一項古老的傳統技藝。
\n\n喪家舉辦法事中,黑頭師公(道士)以自身的技藝如特技、雜耍、音樂與戲曲表演,表達對亡者的慎終追遠,撫慰喪家的悲慟,娛人且娛靈。這個古老行業通常世代傳承,如同一個微型的家族馬戲班。
\n\n本片記錄了臺灣弄鐃家族「桃園許家班」祖孫三代的故事,他們從小練習打鼓、吹嗩吶、弄鐃鈸,各各技藝精湛、法術高強。他們的身影出現在街頭、廣場和家家戶戶,輪番上演目連救母、十月懷胎、打火盆、跑藥懺、跑赦馬、化庫錢等,對悲傷的療癒衍生出來的種種科儀,亦是草根的街頭劇場,隨著時代變遷,也融入新的文化意涵。

\n\n馬戲美學的混種本質,在當代呈現豐沛的跨領域能量,而其中「魔術」更是奇觀展現的經典,也能為演出增添虛實交錯之神秘性。「CNAC法國國家馬戲藝術中心 新魔術大師班」課程方向將包含認識魔術與新魔術的範疇、新魔術戲劇構作的角色,以及新魔術在當代馬戲的發展和運用。深入淺出帶領學員認識新魔術創造新動能的可能性,並嘗試開發與結合新魔術的技巧在自己的表演作品中,或跨界應用到其他領域,發展出新的創作風格!

馬戲創意製作人工作坊
\n\n從2016年起,衛武營就設有馬戲平台,固定為臺灣馬戲與國際交流創造一個友善的環境。如今,隨著環境的變化,下一階段的任務也孕育而生——積極催生具有售票潛力的臺灣馬戲節目。要邁向這個目標,就必須培養馬戲創意製作人這一環。馬戲創意製作人工作坊的目的,是將現階段臺灣馬戲的製作經驗加以公共化,同時讓機構、創作者、製作人都可以聚集一堂,創造一個串聯全臺的馬戲製作網絡。
